Yup....Must Be January!
New Year's Resolutions to lose weight, get in better shape, blah blah blah. Don't get me wrong, it is all wonderful! I commend you and I hope you stay with it.
But boy or boy it is hysterical come January to see the parking lot at my health club.
I work out at Life Time Fitness, an extremely large facility.
The one by my home is one of their largest in the country I believe with something like 350,000 sq. ft or some crazy number. Plus four pools, spa, cafe, 4 water slides, outdoor umbrellas, outdoor grill, yoga room.....you get the picture.

So today I go to work out about 8:30 AM (I don't normally workout on Saturday unless I haven't gotten there much during the week); and oops, forgot it was January! I had to park in the back forty literally!
The parking lot is huge as you can imagine with a facility that size and it was packed. I had to park at the furthest end instead of in my normal 4th or 5th row. I easily walked a block and a half from my car to the front door. Granted I am there for the exercise but when it is 12 degrees and even lower with the windchill it is BBbrrrrrr.
When I came out of the facility about 10:30 it was even worse! Cars were circling watching for people to leave, cars were parked along drive paths. It was crazy!
But, it will be a little better in March, and much better come April. Then we will see the phenomenon all over again next January. But for the short term....I'll be walking a little further each day!
If the gym is part of your New Year's Resolution stick with it! Make the rest of us walk a long distance the rest of the year, not just January!

What I find funny is folks circling the parking lot at the gyms trying to get closer to the front door. DUH if you are trying to get in shape park as far away as you can and walk to the front door.
Shar~I've been a member of fitness club for 20 years and it's always the same thing every January, come spring it'll be back to normal.
@Cindy~I've been saying that for years. I always park toward the back of the lot, heck it's great exercise.
Have an awesome weekend!
Nothing wrong with a brisk walk before (and after) a workout :) Good for you for getting to the gym on a Saturday, so far this year I've taken a break from workouts, have to get back into it
Lucky you....the walk from the parking lot is an extra workout! Funny how the gym gets so busy in January...imagine how much healthier they would all be if they stuck with it.
As long as you leave out the temps. You can say it is January. Othewise you wouldnever know it.
Cindy, I hear you. I did a post last year about a guy at the health club that sat and honked at me to leave my space and there was one 10 feet further down. And it was a beautiful 70 degree day! Today however they were circling because there were no spots. At all!
I know Michael. Every January it is crazy! You have a great weekend too.
I was slacking on my workouts too Diane with the holidays, vacation, busy with work....I just had to get back at it this week.
I know Sharon. I bet 70% of them don't stick with it. Too bad.
Isn't that the truth William. And the temps have only been January temps for a few days. Otherwise they were May temps.
Shar- First of all good for you for getting out in the cold.. Too much for me. I remember in Houston our local Dad's Club would offer specials in January for their club.
Hello Shar,
it was 20 degrees in CT today, as well... January! I had to take a buyer out... Showed lots of homes.
Have a great weekend!
Tatyana.
I was at our local gym ones too. Now I am waiting for those people with resolutions to quit and that I will go. BTW how was your 'no wine, no chocolate' diet? Did you loose any weight?
Hi Shar--sounds more like the shopping mall at Christmas. When I lived in Chicago we used to joke about "January babies" at the gym I belonged to. They were those folks so full of resolutions on January 1 and never to be seen again on February 1.
Shar, maybe if they rode their bikes to the gym, they wouldn't have the problem! LOL!
Gym? I've heard of those things and always wondered what they were like.................LMAO. My bad, something I should do and don't.
Good for you Shar! We understand wanting a closer parking spot when its that cold, do all your exercising in the warmth of inside the gym! Let's hope it is still that packed come April....
Cold...that's not cold Kathy. LOL
I am hoping for warmer temps soon Tatyana!
I lost 6 pounds on my 'detox' Anna. But I gained 4 back over the holidays. Ugh.
Yes, unfortunately it won't last long Janet. Good for me as I can park closer but by then it will be warmer, ha.
I know Peg. I should be too since I only live a mile from the place. But....it can be tough to peddle through the snow banks sometimes. LOL
Oh well Roger.....you can put it on your revolving 'to do' list.
I know Al/Peggy, I don't mind walking but when it is that cold and the wind is ripping and I am heading inside to a cold swimming pool it is really BRrrrrrr....
