As a Home Stager and Redesigner I am asked to stage and decorate many types of homes. Starter homes, massive homes, ramblers, two-stories. But, I have not yet been asked to stage one of MN's most popular houses. Well......okay maybe not that popular.
But three months of the year they are fairly popular creating entire cities of houses!
Remember the movie "Grumpier Old Men"? Yup...that was Minnesota! We love to Ice Fish! We meaning 'they'.....not we including me. :)
There is the starter house:
The small but whimsical house:
The 'sticks out in the neighborhood' house: (every neighborhood has one)
The very cozy house:
The big boy on the block house!!!
And Aahhh.....the "Frosty The Snow Man House" - hurry up it's warm outside:
I am hoping one day to be asked to stage one of these 'houses'. I will let you know! Those of you in Florida.....eat your hearts out!

Shar.....Gave me a good chuckle! I have to say I've never seen one of these in California either except in the movies. Makes we COLD thinking about it!!
Shar, oh my goodness, these are so cute! You'd really have to srage the outside, as there's no room inside, what with all the fishing equipment and such!
That last one looks like a common scene Minnesotas lakes this year.
When you do get asked, let me know if you need any help. Imagine how much fun that would be..........us, working together in that small space! Fun, fun, fun!
Shar~ Grumpy Old Men is one of our favorite movies. Love the bickering of grown men! Tee hee! Thanks for sharing all the cool "homes" out there! I'm not sure I'll ever see a community like that. If I go to Minnesota, it will be to go to the Mall of America!
Ya, not too many of these is CA Kathy unless they are on floats.
Some are so cute Linda! I would stage the outside....on a warm day. Ha. Well, maybe not...I may sink!
Isn't that the truth Randi. Many lakes haven't frozen through this year.
It would have to be a two butt house Roger!
I'd go to the MOA too Donna when you come to town. But get your strength up first! LOL
Not that I see as many of these houses as you do, but I have not yet been asked to stage one either! And....that's just fine with me! I HATE walking on ice, LOL!
Shar- you stage one of those... we want pics!!!!! And yes I remember the movies and couldn't believe people actually had those little houses to ice fish!
So cute and colorful! Some people go through a lot of work to ice fish!
Shar - Seriously? People build houses to go ice fishing?!!! I had no idea. I'm not sure I ever saw the movie, so this is definitely news to me, but the photos are very fun!
Hello Shar, this is so cute!!!! I love these little houses...
Thanks for sharing.
Tatyana
I'm with you Sharon, I don't like walking on ice more than 3" thick.
Yes, the movie was real Kathy. It's a MN thing.
Oh, it is like a religion to some Cathy!
Sally you have to rent the movie! There is a Part 2 which is good too but the original is hysterical. Walter Matthau, Jack Lemmon, Ann Margaret, Burgess Merideth, Daryl Hannah.... I think part two is "Grumpier Old Men".
Some of them are so cute, some so ugly Tatyana. Ha
Shar, no way would I be in one of those this week! It's -27 celsius here! But if you do one, pix are a great idea! The only time I'm on a frozen lake is for ice racing school!
Shar, so fun and creative....and thats what your staging job would be too, I'm sure!
Shar, That was FUN! What kind of fish do you catch when you ice fish?
Good morning Shar,
Fun post, brought back a ton of memories of my ice fishing years. And, the end of season contest - betting which house would be left out too long and go in the lake. Thanks for the smile!
Wow, pretty creative you Minnesotans... :) Great pics. Thanks for sharing.
Ice racing school? Seriously Peg? Now that deserves pictures!
It would be a hoot Ellen wouldn't it?
Cold ones Richard......bada bing bada boom...
You were an Ice Fisherwoman Lisa? Cool! There are always a few that get left out too long every year.
Us MinneaSOtans are so fun aren't we Kim!
What a fun post and photos, Shar! I like the cozy log cabin and could imagine being in front of a warm fire there ... no ice fishing though, thanks anyway :-)
Shar, that last one looks like it is about to sink LOL. I remember Grumpier Old Men! I just can't see the appeal of sitting in a shack freezing for a fish! I remember a Fraiser episode where they went ice fishing with their father ... hilarious!
The hole in the ice freaks me out Maureen. I always feel I will step into it and be trapped until Spring!
Oh but the houses aren't freezing Janice. The have propane or something to keep them toasty warm and some sleep in their house. Not sure why but they do. Oh....and that last one is about to sink. Happens all the time here when it warms up and the owner hasn't taken their house off the lake.
Here is what the insides may look like: some have stoves! You can play cards and man all your 'holes in the ice' at the same time. LOL
Ice fishing always struck me as the ultimate guy get away. I understand some have TV to watch football on. I want one.
Some do have TVs Gene. I think you need an Ice House! They were the first 'man caves'.
Shar, now that looks like a serious challenge, you could really warm one of those places up
Shar. Every winter these houses move out on the ice and then the 'fun' begins. If fishing from a boat is boring then sitting in a shack in the cold must be worse. Still, there is the bonding fun and just getting out of the house (and into another, lol). I love your photos.
I think I could Brian!
I don't really get the going out on the frozen lake to stare into a small hole either Valerie but some don't understand my hobby of two sticks with yarn. LOL
Shar~That's quite the collection of fish houses, it's ironic that I'll be heading up to Leech Lake for four days of fishing, and I'll be looking at fish houses in a different light.
Have an awesome day!
Have a blast Michael....and be safe!
